But reading helps make my world bigger when I can't actually go out into it (because I have a kid). So, I put books on hold through the library, have them transferred to my closest branch, then go with my toddler to pick them up. I don't have to spend time browsing the shelves for me, which turns into him wanting to run amongst the stacks. Instead, I pick up my pile of books, then we go to the children's section where we read and pick out books for him to bring home. I read while he nurses, sitting outside the tub while he takes a bath, while he watches a video and I sit next to him making occasional commentary. It's amazing how fast one can get through a book this way. I understand how hard it is to just pick up a book and read or even find a book to read, especially with kids around.
